PODGORA is a small tourist town located in the southern Croatian, in central Dalmatia. Situated in the heart of the Makarska Riviera, characterized by its mild and warm climate, crystal clear and clean blue sea and beautiful long pebble beaches. Podgora has an exceptional microclimate. Protected from the north by impressive Biokovo mountain and sheltered from the south by Dalmatian islands Hvar and Brač. Podgora is one of the very few oases of peace in the whole Mediterranean.
PODGORA is well connected with the rest of the world. Located between the two Adriatic airports (Split and Dubrovnik), and only 25 km from the entrance to the highway.
PODGORA will delight you with its beaches, clear and warm sea, mild climate, unique beauty, untouched nature, gastronomic delights and other amenities. Here you will feel the smell of salt and the Mediterranean. Podgora is surrounded by pine trees, olive trees and other Mediterranean plants.
PODGORA lives for tourism and from tourism. It is home to about 1,500 inhabitants, while during the summer here are resting thousands of tourists every day. Besides swimming and sunbathing you can enjoy many other amenities such as a variety of watersports, scuba diving, live music, fisherman nights, concerts, walks by the sea, numerous restaurants, pizzerias, bars and with the inevitable ice cream. You can visit the charming villages below the mountain Biokovo with its beautiful views and stone houses. If you want you can rent a boat, bike, car or motorcycle. Here you will find shops for food, clothing, shoes, beach supplies, souvenir shops, jewelery stores, ATMs, bakeries, markets…
BEACHES
PODGORA can certainly be proud on its beautiful, well-kept and maintained beaches. Slightly rounded pebbles and shallow clear sea make these beaches very suitable for children and less skilled swimmers. Main beaches are equipped with showers and changing rooms, where you can rent parasols and deck chairs. Central beach in front of the hotels are the largest and most visited. Also, there are other beaches where you can find the natural shadow under the pine trees. There are also small hidden beaches in the bays, and some of them are nudist beaches (FKK). Whichever beach you choose, you will enjoy in the pleasant, blue and crystal clear sea.
CLIMATE
PODGORA has a typical Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters. Over 2700 sunny hours per year ranks Podgora among the warmest parts of the Croatia and one of the sunniest places in the Mediterranean. The annual averages of air and sea temperatures are higher than 20°C.
Warm, sunny and long Summers with a very large number of clear days. Temperature of 25°C during the day can be expected in April, as well at the end of October, and even then you can enjoy in Adriatic Sea. In July and August, daily temperatures climb above 30°C. Sea temperatures through Summer Time are between 21°C and 27°C. The most common summer winds blowing from the sea direction and bring pleasant refreshment (Mistral, Tramuntana). Winters are mild, and the snow is very rare and is considered as true sensation.
PODGORA – ideal base for daily excursions, is very close to many attractive locations such as Dubrovnik, Split, Trogir … Most of sites can be visited by car by your own, or organized by some of the local tourist agency… With some of the local excursion boats you can visit the most beautiful Dalmatian islands: Hvar, Brač and Korčula. |
